The University of Missouri Dance Marathon began in 1996 as an effort to give something back to future generations. It was a 24-hour fundraising event that the Steering Committee hoped would become a strong tradition here as one of the University’s biggest philanthropies. Since its start in 1996, Mizzou’s Dance Marathon has raised over $180,000 for the Columbia Children’s Hospital. Dance Marathon 2006 was truly an amazing event. To kick off the Dance Marathon season, the Steering Committee planned a benefit concert featuring Matt Wertz. The concert was such a tremendous success that the entire Blue Note was sold out. The Blue Note also hosted Dance Marathon 2006 and helped the event to earn the title, “Party with a Purpose.” By introducing new events and a new venue, last year’s Dance Marathon raised a record-breaking $30,000. This year's Dance Marathon is once again a "Party with a Purpose" at the Blue Note. The fun is concentrated into 12 hours rather than spread over 24 hours this year: 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2 to 4 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 3. DM will kick off on Monday, Oct. 1, with a Matt Nathanson concert at the Blue Note. Many new and noteworthy events are planned for the entire community. Check the calendar to see what's coming up. |
